Gene A. Hughes

Gene Alfred Hughes, 83, passed away on October 18, 2022 at home in Powell, Ohio surrounded by family. He was the husband of Donna M. Hughes. They shared 41 years of a beautiful marriage. Born in Gallipolis, Ohio, he was the son of Eleanor M. Hughes (Davison), step-son of Dorothy M. Hughes (Mercer) and James A. Hughes. He graduated from Franklin University with a B.S, in Business Administration. He worked for International Harvester as a Warehouse Foreman for 25 years and The Ohio State University, Utilities Distribution at Physical Facilities as a project engineer for 25 years. He served in the Air National Guard for six years. After retirement he drove for Stofcheck Ambulance. Gene was an active member of the Linworth United Methodist Church where he served as trustee, garage sale worker, youth volunteer at retreats and work trips and MOPS volunteer. He had several rental properties over 40 years and also enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity until he was not able to see well enough. He is predeceased by his mother, Eleanor Hughes, step-mother, Dorothy Hughes, father, James Hughes, and brothers, James Hughes and Edward Hughes. He is survived by his lovely wife of 41 years, Donna Hughes, his brother, William Rodney Hughes (Betty), sons, David Hughes (Anita), Daniel Hughes (Ruthie), and daughter, April Williams (Jake). He leaves seven grandchildren, Kiyanna (Andrew), Kaileigh (Brian), Alex, Kayla, Anabella, Alexander and Isaac. He leaves four great grandchildren, Arthur, Emelia, Gideon and Marjorie. Visiting with the family will be at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., November 5, 2022 at Linworth United Methodist Church, 7070 Bent Tree Blvd., Columbus, OH 43235 followed by a light luncheon in fellowship hall. A brief ceremony will be held for immediate family after the service at the columbarium outside the sanctuary. Childcare will be provided from 9:30 until 1:00. Contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org) or Linworth United Methodist Church (www.linworthumc.org). The service will be live streamed for those who would like to see the service but cannot attend. .
