Eva Ashworth

ASHWORTH Eva Ashworth, age 95, passed away in peace and with dignity December 25, 2010 at Kobacker House in Columbus. Born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, Eva often commented on the fact that she survived two world wars being born in WW1 and serving her country in the manufacture of aircraft in WWII. She originally came to the United States in 1956 residing in Houston and Addison, Texas. She moved to Ohio in 1975 where she worked at Sears, Eastland, and Ronald McDonald House. Eve loved animals and provided in-home pet care for a number of years. A member of the British Wives Club and volunteer at Worthington’s Griswold Senior Center she continued to be active well into her 90’s. She is survived by her brother, Peter Gartside and sister-in-law Valerie Gartside of Blackpool, England, daughter Lesley Ashworth of Worthington, Ohio, grandchildren, Paul Ashworth and Aaron Ufferman and great-grandchildren Justin Ashworth, Paul Ashworth, Jr., Veronica Ufferman and Joseph Ufferman. Eva will be missed by her family and those wonderful, caring people who made up her extended family, Cindy and Gary Ufferman, Patricia Ufferman, Tomi and Charlie Stroul and Morry Schwartz. Our admiration and gratitude to the staff of Kobacker House Hospice for their warm, kind and compassionate care and in particular to Sandy who held her hand and comforted her in her final hour. Sincere appreciation as well to the Catered Care Unit of Claremont Retirement Village, Columbus, Ohio. In 1990 Eve elected to donate her body to The Ohio State University and requested no funeral or formal service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Columbus Park of Roses Foundation, P.O. Box 09576, Columbus, OH 43209 in memory of Eva Ashworth. All funds will go toward purchase of a cedar bench in her memory. Those contributing will be notified of the bench dedication date to be held in Spring, 2011.
