Edward R Schaefer Jr.

Edward R. Schaefer Jr., age 66, of Delaware OH, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He was born on August 19, 1950 to the late Edward R. Schaefer Sr. and Betty Bicknell. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Schaefer and son, Edward “Trip” R. Schaefer III and sister, Mara (Don) Beskin. Also, his sister-in-law Bobbie (Mike) Schilling and their sons, Joe (Joyce) Schilling and Tony Schilling. He also leaves behind other special family members who held special roles throughout his life. Trip’s good friend, Paul “Pickle” Mohler was always considered a “second” son. Ed graduated from Princeton High School in Cincinnati where he was editor of the school newspaper, attended Ashland University and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an MBA. Ed was a Bronze Palm Eagle Scout and loved being involved in the Scouting program and was very proud when Trip also became an Eagle Scout. Ed enjoyed his time in helping coach baseball and football while Trip was in grade school and middle school. Ed was always the Chief Chef at all of the family and social gatherings, but never wrote down a recipe! His favorite gatherings were the OSU parties in the Boys’ Club. He made sure that all those who came always felt welcome and had a great time! Ed loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and his fishing trips to Pog Lake in Canada, and also his pheasant-hunting trips with friends throughout the United States. Ed was an AKC Field Trial and Hunt Test Judge and competitor. He enjoyed watching both his dogs and competitor’s dogs run in the field doing what they were bred to do. He was a past President of the Associated Bird Dog Clubs of Ohio and the Miami Valley Vizsla Club. He was also, a longtime member of the NRA. With over 40 years with Liebert Corporation, Ed had many titles. Most recently, as the Senior Customer Advocate. This was his favorite as it was most important to him to keep the rep organizations and the customers first!! He deeply appreciated all the friendships he made through the years. He always said the way to get things accomplished is to “coach”. However, Ed’s most important titles were Dad and “Uncle Ed” to so many kids …they all loved him! Calling hours will be held at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington OH 43085 on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 1-3PM and 6-9PM and Tuesday, August 1st from 10:30AM-12:00PM followed by a Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Simon Kenton Council BSA, 807 Kinnear Road, Columbus OH 43212.
