Daniel J. Guthrie

Daniel James Guthrie, 70, of New Albany, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024. He honorably retired as a Sergeant with the City of Columbus Division of Police after faithfully serving 28 years. He held assignments in Narcotics, Patrol, Burglary, Homicide, Crime Scene Search, Freeway, Training Academy (In-Service Training Unit), Internal Affairs, Juvenile (Exploited/Missing Children’s Unit) and Accident Investigation. He received many certificates, achievements and awards for outstanding Police and Public Service from the Ohio House of Representatives, Ohio Senate, City of Columbus City Council, City of Columbus Division of Police, City of Columbus Division of Fire, FBI, New York City Homicide and citizens. He attended Ohio State University from 1972-1977. He remains an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 till his death. His hobbies were building and flying remote controlled airplanes and his flowers. Roses were his specialty. Proceeding him in death was his supportive loving wife and mate of twenty years, Doris J. Alotis ‘aka’ Janie, whom he always called “My beautiful Janie”, Thunderstorm ‘aka’ Mr. Storm (K-9 German Shephard Service Dog) and his parents, James E. Guthrie and Helen L. Guthrie, whom he always called “My pretty mommy.” Surviving family members are; daughter, Ashley D. (Anthony T.) Guthrie Korneagay; son, Kyle J. Guthrie; granddaughter, Lola M. Korneagay, all from Sunbury, Ohio; brothers, Ronald M. (Kathy) Guthrie of Waldo, Ohio and Richard A (Marty) Guthrie of Wyoming; sister, Marilyn (Guthrie) Skinner of Marion, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Special people in his life were Paul Benjamin whom was his teacher in Christianity and his most trustworthy and very loyal friend Eric Nordman ‘aka’ Swede. The family wants to give their admiration to Mount Carmel Hospice for their love and support during this difficult time. Calling hours will be held at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, Ohio, from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, December 15, 2024 with a funeral service being held at 10 am on Monday, December 16, 2024.
