Charles Gerard Bowman

Charles Gerard Bowman peacefully passed away on August 8, 2023. A selfless, kind and funny man, Charles was born in 1945 to his late parents, Francis and Anna Bowman, and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. Charles was graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School and LaSalle University. Drafted during the Vietnam War, Charles chose to serve in the Navy on the USS Patterson from 1968-1972. After 35+ years working for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Charles retired as a supervisor and trainer for the Department of Human Services. Charles is survived by his nephew, Kevin McCarthy and his wife, Karen, his great niece, Morgan McCarthy, and great nephew and godson, Brendan McCarthy; his niece, Carol (McCarthy) Kinzer and her husband, Derek Kinzer, great niece and goddaughter, Starsen Kinzer; his brother in-law, Albert Lippman and his wife, Nancy; nephew Steven Lippman and many cousins. Charles married the love of his life, Cherylann Lippman, in 1975. They were rarely apart. Charles and Cheryl enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. We imagine that Charles was greeted in heaven by his sweetheart, Cheryl, feisty sister, Francine (Bowman) McCarthy and beautiful niece and goddaughter, Lisa McCarthy. Charles and Cheryl loved and doted on their dogs. We are certain lots of kisses and licks were waiting for Charles from his special Old English Sheepdogs Brittney, Devon and Martha My Dear. Charles loved Rock n Roll. During his lifetime, Charles was an avid and talented guitar player who rocked with bands from Boston to Philadelphia. Immediately before reuniting with his beloved Cheryl, he listened to Queen and The Beatles’ The White Album. He was also a big fan of Philly sports, pledging his lifelong loyalty to the mighty Phillies and the Eagles. For many years, Charles was also a smooth competitor in Philly’s recreational bowling leagues. Charles’ doctor shared that Charles’ remarkable resilience allowed him to far outlive any potential treatment options, and ultimately, he declined them all. His reasoning: “I feel pretty good.” Charles’ wit, loving nature and sense of fun made his family feel pretty good, too. We loved Charles dearly, and he will be dearly missed. A private family service will be held in the near future.
