Charlene A. Martin (Hunt)

Charlene Ann (Hunt) Martin passed away on October 13, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father Charles E. Hunt and her mother Irene L. Hunt (Stevens). She is survived by her husband of 54years Lee E.Martin, sons Jeffrey and Jason Martin; daughters in law Amy Roth Martin and Michelle Hursey Martin; and grandchildren Matthew Hursey, Charles Lee Martin, and Sara Grace Martin. A native of Columbus, OH Charlene graduated from Whetstone High School in 1968 and began working for the Universal CIT Loan Company. After marrying Lee, she traveled with him while he was in the US Air Force, living in Texas and South Carolina. She did public address announcements for the WA Family Store in Sumter, SC because of her “unusual accent”. She returned home to Columbus when Lee went overseas. Charlene was a phlebotomist at Riverside Methodist Hospital and an office manager for the HER Realty Co. As PTA President at Colerain Elementary School, she enjoyed dressing up as a witch for Halloween and visiting the children in their classrooms. Moving to Florida in 1996, Charlene became an office worker in Jason’s elementary school. She was a poll worker and precinct captain for the Miami-Dade County Board of Elections. She hated politics but could predict winners with uncanny accuracy. Although she worked a variety of places in Ohio, Texas, South Carolina and Florida, her primary job in life was raising her two sons, who she loved dearly. She was also a loving friend and advisor to her husband, and was never shy about telling him what she thought of his work or personal choices. She was a steadfast partner who offered down to earth advice in many situations. She overcame her fear of the ocean after seeing the movie “Jaws" in order to scuba dive with her husband and sons, and they spent many weekends in the Florida Keys together while the boys lived at home. She and Lee flew many places in small aircraft for work or pleasure. Charlene would often critique her husband’s forensic reports and testimony, explaining what a juror would most likely think of his arguments as either a plaintiff or defense expert witness. Charlene was virtuous without being condescending, loving without losing objectivity, and inspirational without being pretentious. She will live in our hearts forever. In the family tradition, a brief graveside memorial service will be held at Mifflin Township Cemetery, 218 Agler Road, Gahanna, OH at 11:00 a.m. on October 25, 2022.
