Brett Richard Candela

Brett Richard Candela, age 32, passed suddenly of an unexpected illness, on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 at Riverside Hospital with his loving family and friends by his side. Let us celebrate his joyous life. He was born August 1st, 1983 in Columbus, Ohio to Dr. Richard and Sandy Candela. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Jerry and Dora Candela; grandfather Stephen Komara; uncle Thomas Candela; aunt Patricia Sposito and aunt Marlene Komara. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Sandy Candela; sisters, Nicole Candela and Melissa Candela-Broom; nephew, Jared Candela; brother in law, Michael J. Broom; fiancé, Aubrey Beatrice Agnew and their expected son; Grandmother Ruth Komara, Uncle Bob Komara and family; Aunt Pat and Uncle Bill Kochenour and family; Aunt Lisa and Uncle Steve Komara and family; Aunt Sue and Uncle Tom Komara and family; Aunt Carol Catley and family; Aunt Kim Komara; many extended family members and friends. Brett was a devoted son, brother, uncle, fiancé, father, cousin, friend, and coach. He was a graduate of The Wellington School, Class of 2002, where he excelled at sports, making everyone laugh, and forming friendships that lasted throughout his life. Additionally, he attended Columbus State Community College. He was an avid athlete and enjoyed all sports. During his high school Lacrosse career, his freshman year he was named Second Team All Ohio and named First Team All Ohio the following three years. He was 9th in The Wellington School’s career Lacrosse scoring list. He enjoyed coaching and refereeing Lacrosse. He was most known for his love of his family, especially his nephew Jared, friends and life. His humor, pride, and enduring loyalty will always be remembered and cherished. He displayed an extraordinary gift, which allowed him to positively impact the lives of many children he mentored. He showed compassion to all, especially the animals he loved and spent time building a home with Habitat for Humanity in Argentina. He proposed to his great love, Aubrey “Betty” Agnew on Christmas Day, 2015 and was overjoyed for the upcoming birth of their son in May. As the true hero and honorable man he was, he selflessly donated his organs to save the lives of others. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Hospital for their compassionate care and dedication during his final days.
