Alma S. Ingersoll

Alma S. Ingersoll, 92, passed away 09/04/23 in Powell, Ohio. She was born on March 30, 1931 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Hartman Schuller. Alma graduated from South High School in 1949. She worked as a keypunch operator for Automatic Sprinkler and later, Republic Steel. While working at Republic Steel, she met her future husband Robert E. Ingersoll, who preceded her in death. They were married on December 4, 1954 at Honterus Lutheran Church. They raised a loving family and were happily married for 63 years, until Robert’s passing in 2018. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Alma worked in the coat department at Joseph Horne’s, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had many fond memories of her coworkers and customers, and especially loved trips to the main store in Pittsburgh. Alma was an avid reader, enjoyed writing poetry, and loved playing cards. She also loved to bake, and passed that love of baking down to her children and grandchildren. The Christmas cookie plates at the Ingersoll’s were enjoyed by many! Alma also loved being with family, especially Schuller family reunions. She truly appreciated the visits and phone calls from children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews while she lived at Abbington Assisted Living. Alma is survived by her children, Suzanne (Matthew) Chizmar of Lewis Center and R. Elliott (Jennifer) Ingersoll of Kent; grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) Pence, Melissa Chizmar, Brady Ingersoll and Kaitlyn Ingersoll; great-granddaughter Isabella Pence, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Alma was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Strupkus Bendel and Dorothy Schuller, and beloved cousin Christine Pukalski. A funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 21st at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44503, with a calling hour from 1:00-2:00, and a service at 2:00. The family would also like to thank Judy and Hubert Radtke, for the loving care and friendship provided while Alma was still in her home in Poland.
