Wendell Stewart Swords

Wendell Stewart Swords, born in Springfield, OH on August 27, 1932, died peacefully at Kobacker House on October 8, 2014. Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Christine ("Tina") Swords, son Bruce W. Swords, parents Wheeler and Anna Swords, brother Gaylon (Alice) Swords, and sister Marjorie (Lee) Gilbreath. Survived by son Randall (Marcia) Swords and their children Nathaniel (13) and Eva (9) of Upper Arlington, daughter-in-law Kathryn Swords and her children Sara (16) and John (14) of Nashville, sisters-in-law Deanna Bardy and Audrey Bardy, both of Grosse Pointe, MI, niece Michelle Pettit of Bishop, CA, nephew Christopher Pettit of Grosse Pointe, nieces Gail (Mike) Regnery of Colorado, Kittie Swords of Vandalia, OH, Gina (Tommy) Seay of Enon, OH, Amy (Mike) Lewis of Chicago, and nephews Ed (Cindy) Gilbreath of Cedar Grove, IN, Gary Swords of Dayton, OH, Greg (Cindy) Swords of Dublin, OH, and Joel (Joyce) Swords of Springfield, OH. Also survived by close relatives Natalie Jo Zimmerman and her son Evan Brandao (15) of Upper Arlington. Wendell graduated from Springfield High School in 1950, attended Bowling Green State University and was a life loyal member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, then served two years in the Army at Ft. Bliss, TX. He met Tina in Chicago in June, 1958 and they were married October 31, 1959. Wendell had a long career in the office furniture business in Columbus and enjoyed knowing customers from all areas of the city. In 1987 he started a wholesale lock business with son Randy and was active in its daily operations into this year. He enjoyed worship and friendships at St. John's United Church of Christ, where he had served as president of consistory. Mound St., Columbus, OH 43215 or to Glen Helen Nature Preserve, 405 Corry St., Yellow Springs, OH 45387. Graveside service and inurnment at 9:30am October 17, Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 8200 W. National Rd. (US Rt. 40), New Carlisle, OH. Pastor Virginia L. Bauman officiating. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering 12:30 to 3:30pm on October 17 at The Clintonville Woman's Club, 3951 N. High St. in Columbus.
