Robert G. Ramsey

Robert (Bob) G. Ramsey passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023 at the Kobacker House after a prolonged illness. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to Ira Ramsey and Nell Franz Ramsey and grew up in Columbus where he graduated from West High School in 1950. He went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his service, he married Bonnie Palmer Ramsey and, together they had four children: (Robert)Bruce, Lisa, Brian and Molly Sue. Together, the family cherished yearly trips to visit grandparents in Fort Myers, Florida. Bob owned and operated a BP dealership in Worthington and remained active in the Central Ohio Gasoline Dealers Association. He also took great pride in his membership in the Lions Club. He was a faithful Buckeye fan and extended his love of the game to spending endless hours managing and coaching his sons’ little league football team, the Northland Packers providing instruction, encouragement and support to the young players and taking great pride in all their successes. Bob was an avid stamp collector and could easily become lost for hours in researching and cataloguing his extensive collection. He was also a prolific reader across a wide variety of subjects and often surprised new acquaintances with his range of knowledge on many topics. It was always a pleasure to engage him in conversation, especially on politics, but one best be “up” on their facts, or Bob would certainly win the debate! Above all, Bob was an honest and fair-minded man who disliked prejudices of all kinds and did not flinch from speaking out against them. Bob enjoyed a beer or two now and then and genuinely loved socializing with friends and family. He had an easy going nature that made him easy to like. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonnie; second wife, Julia Ramsey; son, Brian Ramsey and daughter, Molly Sue Torch. He is survived by son, (Robert) Bruce Ramsey; daughter, Lisa Anne Ramsey; brother, Bill (Stephanie) Ramsey; nephews, William (Revelyn) Ramsey of Fort Collins, Colorado, Michael (Loan) Ramsey of Scottsdale, Arizona; niece, Chelsea Ramsey; son-in-law, Noah Torch of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughters, Ella and Vivian Torch, Megan Ramsey; great-nephews, William Preston Ramsey and Ryan Ramsey and great-nieces, Regan Ramsey and Riley Ramsey. Bob cherished his special friends, John Quinn and Johnny Price. He was especially appreciative of the care, support and kindness of the staff at the StoryPoint Assisted Living facility in Powell, Ohio where he spent the final months of his life.
