John Thompson Bogart

John (Jack) Thompson Bogart passed away Friday June 5, 2015 surrounded by his loving family in Cincinnati, his childhood home. Jack was born May 19, 1927 and grew up in Norwood with his brother Don and sisters Jeri, Jean and June. After graduating from Norwood High School he entered the United States Navy, eager to support his country during WWII. He served in the Pacific for two years, which enabled him to enter the University of Cincinnati on a Navy GI bill. He transferred to the Ohio State University where he became a devoted Buckeye, joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and met his beautiful wife of 50 years, Joan "Jo" Freeman Bogart. Jack began working as a buyer at the OSU Faculty Club, and then took a job as a Food Buyer for Lazarus where he worked for the next 35 years. During this time, he and Jo raised their son, Johnny and five daughters, Jeri, Jill, Sandy, Sharon and Amy Jo, in Worthington. They were all very active members of Crestview Presbyterian Church and they built a close-knit Christian family within the church. Jack was very proud of the fact that he was able to walk his daughters down the aisle of that church when they married, and that as an Elder of the church, he was able to baptize his grandchildren there as well. Jack's reputation as a kind, considerate, smart, hard working and very witty man was quickly established at home, at work, at church and in the community. His children recall the many wonderful trips to Lazarus with him where he was treated like a local celebrity given how much everyone respected him. Jack and Jo raised their children in an incredibly loving, nourishing and fun home. The Bogart House was known for its parties, which were the best because Jack and Jo were there, serving bologna sandwiches and laughing right along with their kids and all their friends. Jo's passing in 2003 was devastating for the entire family, especially Jack. So it was a true blessing that he met Pat, his loving wife of the past 10 years, at a Norwood High School Reunion. Jack moved back to Cincinnati where he and Pat lived these last years of his life to the fullest, dancing and laughing with family and friends. While his passing is certainly sad for all of us, he was ready to go and he waited for all of his six children to join him, to say goodbye, and be with him before he took that great journey. Jack used to say "I believe in the F-word...not that one, but Faith, Family and Friends". God blessed him with a family that is huge in size and in love. He was thankful every day and never let any of us forget that we filled his life with joy. He would often quote his brother Don "Here's looking at you kids!" He was the Jack we all know and love to the very end...flashing his handsome smile, wooing the nurses, blowing us kisses and making us laugh with his dry sense of humor and wit. Everyone who knew him loved him, it was impossible not to. In addition to Pat and his six beloved children, he leaves behind sons-in-law, Mike, Jim & Dave, daughter-in-law Jennifer, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren (and more on the way!), as well as his sisters Jeri and June. In addition to Jo, he will join his siblings Don, Jean and Billy in heaven, as well as baby Lauren. Friends may call at SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N.
