Joanne M. Weis

Joanne Marie Weis, 75, of Powell, OH peacefully entered Heaven on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Born the first child of the late Joseph and Catherine Maher in Flushing, NY, her Catholic faith and intellect led her to graduate from Dominican Academy HS and Notre Dame College (St. John’s University) in NYC. Married to Edward, her childhood sweetheart, she raised three sons, Edward (deceased), Robert of Salisbury, MD and Stephen of Powell, OH. She actively participated in the boys’ many sports activities and educational pursuits. The family moved to Park Ridge, NJ in 1967. Joanne taught Early Education and Kindergarten for many years. She was a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, served on the Church Council and taught Religious Education. She was a founding member and dedicated worker in “Birth Right.” She was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob, and very proud of her nearly 35 years of love, support and sponsorships. Following Ed’s retirement from JP Morgan Chase in NY, they relocated to Bethany Beach, DE in 1995. She was a community board member, a voracious reader and was active in social events, bridge and book clubs. In 2007, “Papa and Joey” relocated to Powell, OH to share in the lives of their adored grandchildren Matthew and Megan. Joanne’s loving memory lives on in her husband of 53 years Ed, two sons Robert (wife Debbie) and Stephen (wife Bridget), her grandchildren, sisters Patricia Maloney, Kathleen Foley, Eileen Musso, Ann Normile and brothers Joseph and Michael Maher and sister-in-law Margaret Norris and their families. Family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8pm. MONDAY at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Rd.) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am. TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2012 at ST.
