Carroll Delano Adkins

Carroll Delano Adkins, 84, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was born October 3, 1939, to the late Eber and Opal Adkins in the rural hills of West Virginia. Carroll came to Columbus, Ohio as a teenager where he mastered many home building skills such as framing, hanging and finishing drywall, plumbing and painting. In the late 1960s he started Carroll’s Trenching Service and built his small business into a well-known and respected company. Carroll worked for most, if not all, of the premier custom home builders in central Ohio. It is no exaggeration to say that Carroll has left his mark of quality in thousands of custom-built homes over the last 55 years. Carroll was an avid hunter and fisherman whose skills in the woods or on the water were astonishing and really unmatched. He honed his skills at hunting and fishing from all his excursions and adventures over the years with family and friends and especially from roaming the hills and hollers of West Virginia with his brothers Carlton and Ronnie. Carroll loved to spend time with his sister Junia and his nephew Dana. He and his beloved Dawn would always do their best to show up to any and all family events. Family brought him so much joy. He also loved his grandkids and was very proud of their life accomplishments and adventures. He was always sharing stories about them with the rest of the family. Carroll also loved animals and very much cherished his sweet little dachshund, Lucy. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved partner Dawn Huston, daughters Carol Sue (Travis) Ross and Glenda (Brian) Amende, son Kenneth (Darla) Adkins; sisters Junia Ross, Karen Oncale, and Sheila Fellows; most loved nephew Dana Ross; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years Mary Sue Adkins, and brothers Carlton Adkins and Ronald Adkins. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2024, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 W. Olentangy Street in Powell. Services will immediately follow the visitation hours and will be officiated by Pastor Al Perry. Burial to follow service at Oller Cemetery, Delaware, Ohio.
